Has the Google Jagger update broken the backs of black-hat practitioners? Probably not but when the support structures fail and the roof comes caving in it’s vaguely understandable to think for a short moment that the sky must be falling on them. Online advertising is entering a fourth phase of innovation. Each of the previous waves of online marketing innovation has directly influenced or informed the development of successive waves. Starting with banner ads ten years ago, the online economy has revolved around advertising. While subscriber fees, government grants and private investment capital paid for the development of the backbone, advertisers paid for the development and sustentation of commercial websites. Splogs + Scraping + AdSense = Fraud

The other day, an article appeared in Search Engine Journal suggesting webmasters monetize their sites using Google AdSense. While the article neglected to mention an alternative webmaster advertising program offered by Yahoo Search Marketing, the idea of using one’s website as a commercial medium (if possible or practical) makes good sense and can provide a minor side-income. Google Building Alternative Internet

Google is working on its most ambitious project to date, the creation of a global data transfer network that could effectively serve as a private Internet. Since the introduction of AdWords three years ago, Google has become the world’s largest media company and advertising vehicle. It has grown to rival Microsoft in scope and scale. Its rivals, Yahoo!, MSN and Ask Jeeves have spent the past few years working to narrow the vast technological and popularity gap between them and the great Google. Trademarked Target

Over at the Search Engine Watch forums, a search engine marketer who goes by the nickname “Nuthin” put up a post about a problem he is having with Google AdWords.

Nuthin is working for a new but unnamed web directory. He used the word TARGET in the copy of a purchased ad, part of which read, “Reach your target audience today”. This all makes sense so far right? Read more…

Google is introducing site-targeting for paid-advertisers in a bid to perfect their golden-egg ad-distribution network AdWords. Yesterday Google announced a limited beta test of a unique feature to AdWords, a system allowing advertisers to choose where their ads are displayed by selecting the sites or pages they will appear on. Adding Value to AdWords

This is a breaking story about Google AdWords based on several rumours, readings and conversations. There is a fair likelihood that some information here is erroneous. In an email, Google Advertising PR Michael Mayzel stated, “We are not providing comment.” If correct the implications are huge and might provide Google advertisers critical protections they’ve been asking for.
