What’s it Like to Work at StepForth?

A west coast culture prevails at StepForth – shorts, sandals and high octane fuel (caffeine) abounds. We get to the office by bicycle or on foot. Five of us have a zero (urban) carbon footprint by working out of our home. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who is familiar with British Columbia where the work environment is relaxed and, even may be considered by some as casual. How can this be? After all, Victoria is renowned for its plethora of high-quality coffee micro roasters; we all should be edgy and twitchy. Victoria experiences a micro climate that has 50% less rain than its Vancouver or Seattle neighbours. So maybe it’s the beautiful west coast climate and landscape. More so, perhaps, could it be the non-industrial and refreshing coastal air off the Strait of Juan de Fuca?

We think there’s another possibility.

Team StepForth members are sociable, friendly and considerate. Generally we are of good cheer, enjoy each other’s company (quirks) and work in a nurturing and supportive environment. But don’t be mistaken; this is not to take away from frequent in-office pranks and humorous situations. Of course, we work hard to be the best we can be in our industry which has had a direct positive influence for the successes of our world wide clients in even the most competitive search engine searches. We often get together after hours for a bbq. Typically, after Ross buys some new gadget for his home we get invited over to his place so he can showcase it and then we watch movies and eat food that our partners would frown upon.

Have a question or comment about what we do off hours? (Need help in a game?) Let us know if you enjoy these pages. We’re all looking to hearing from you. Please feel free to check out our personal team profiles using the top right-hand menu.

Important: you are only seeing our full-time executive team. The rest of the StepForth Team are contractors who are experts in their respective fields, from pay-per-click marketing to social media marketing and services better than link building.

Ross Dunn, CEO/Owner

Ross Dunn is the CEO and founder of StepForth Web Marketing Inc, a web marketing company founded in 1997 and based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Scott Van Achte, Senior SEO

After graduating from Computer Systems Technology at Camosun College, Scott responded to a help wanted ad for a part time “busy work” position at StepForth. An interest in the newly exposed SEO industry and an increased demand for services quickly escalated his position into an SEO and PPC management role. Scott quickly discovered a knack for SEO and within 2 years he had worked his way up into a Senior SEO position. Today, after more than a decade in this role, Scott oversees a number of clients and handles several consulting and hands-on SEO projects. Scott’s sense of humor and easy-going attitude make him a perfect fit for StepForth and allow for friendly and personable conversations with clients. There are a lot of things he loves about this job, but one of his favorite parts is the wide variety of people and businesses he is exposed to, every day learning something new and different about various client industries. Work is an enjoyable and incredibly important part of Scott’s life but his biggest love is spending time with his two young kids, Emma & Ethan, and his wife Lyndsay. Hanging out with his family, kayaking, cycling, fishing, bowling, and all things outdoors are where he finds his true passion for life. A cold beer on the deck on a warm summers evening doesn’t hurt either!
