History has been made, Google is now the first Search Engine in history to have been chosen 2 times in a row as the the alternate search engine source for Yahoo's search results.

Major Players Update

As some of you may have noticed, Google has made some fairly significant changes to it's ranking algorithm. This has been in response to several blatant and well publicized manipulations of its results. As a result of the changes, Google's search engine results have been less than reliable as of late, we expect to see some more algorithm changes in the near future while Google stabilizes.

Never heard of Teoma? Well we think it is likely the next best thing on the horizon. Operated by Ask Jeeves (Ask.com), Teoma was founded in 2000 in Piscataway, New Jersey by a team of scientists from Rutgers University. Teoma means "expert" in Gaelic. Ask Jeeves acquired Teoma in September 2001. Try it out and let us know what you think. do you think it could be a Google contender in the future?

Overture has proven that online advertising is still a strong industry by noting a third-quarter revenue surge of 50%. With paid listings growing in popularity so consistently, you can bet that Overture's rates will be rising soon. StepForth is a firm believer that paid placement promotions have a place in any online promotion, however, news of rising costs in the near future only strengthen our belief that search engine placement on the free search engines will remain important.

Expect a fair amount of change at MSN.com for the forseeable future. MSN has hired big guns and is planning on targeting AOL subscribers through its latest version of web software - MSN 8.0.

Weekly Quick Tip

External links: do you have a link page on your web site? Or a sitemap with links pointing to external web sites? It is always a good idea to make certain to include text in the link that is relevant to the page you are linking to. Also you should have a brief description of the site that you are linking to. If you do not follow these basic guidelines, many search engines could consider the links negatively when ranking your web site.
